1. The gold background represents the first sash attained in Shaolin Pentjak Silat and just as Gold is a precious valuable metal, the Gold Sash is a valuable precious rank and the beginning of the journey.

2. The circles represent the creation & unity in the styles of Shaolin Chuan Fa, Pentjak Silat, Poekoelan and Kuntao as well as the circle represents the foundation of circular movement used in Shaolin Pentjak Silat.
3. The system name " Shaolin Pentjak Silat" surrounding the center symbols in a circular route denotes that this system is Pentjak Silat with the Shaolin arts as a foundation. Pentjak is spelled the Dutch way instead of Pencak the Indonesian way denoting the Dutch-Indo masters who brought these Silat arts to America.

4. The inner style names are colored purple because that is a traditional Indonesian color and a sign of Royalty.

5. The inner styles are the core of the system.
a) Kuntao is an Ancient style of Chinese fighting that was introduced to Indonesia hundreds of years ago and combined with many styles of Silat producing a new hybrid style of Kuntao.
b) Poekoelan is an older name describing the Indonesian fighting arts and is one of the original names for Pentjak Silat.
c) Chuan Fa is the style of the Shaolin Temple & the warrior Monks and is the foundation of our system.

6. The 3 knives/swords combine to make a triangle which is the main geometrical symbol of our fighting art. It denotes stepping patterns, body alignment and other technical aspects of our system and is the main symbol of most Southeast Asian fighting arts such as Silat, Kuntao, Kali, Silek and Pukulan/Poekoelan.
7. The knife/sword is called a Keris and is the main weapon of Pentjak Silat and is a sign or symbol of Pentjak Silat when words are not present.
8. The center symbol is the Chinese Hanji character for Chi or Internal Energy and is the heart of our system. Without the internal there is no true power, strength, speed or health.
